Formerly known as
Armistice Day, Veterans Day was established in the U.S. as a legal
holiday to honor the end of World War I, which officially took
place on November 11, 1918.
After World War
II and the Korean War Congress voted to change the word Armistice
to Veterans so Americans could honor all American Veterans who
served in our armed forces.
