November 29, 1832 - March 6, 1888
Louisa
May was born in Pennsylvania, but grew up in Boston and later in Concord,
Massachusetts. When Louisa was growing up her family did not have
a lot of money but they did have good friends like famous writers
Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau.
Louisa May started to write
so she could help her family financially. She wrote a famous book
called Little Women, the story of four sisters growing up in
a New England town during the mid 1800's.She wrote many other
books as well, and often chose to write stories about things in her
life or things she knew well. Some people think Louisa May Alcott
was one of the greatest female writers of the 19th century.
